Multicharacter Interview + Contest: Heidi Ayarbe

Today, I have a lovely treat for you guys. Not only has Heidi Ayarbe been kind enough to answer some questions for me, but she's brought along characters from not just her latest release, Compulsion, but her previous two releases as well. And to top it all off, they've even brought an amazing contest with them, so stick around for that! But first, I bring you Kyle from Freeze Frame, Maya from Compromised, and Jake from Compulsion, right alongside Heidi, and all answering the same set of questions!

If you were a book on a bookshelf, what books would you want to be your neighbors?

Kyle: The A List: The National Society Of Film Critics' 100 Essential Films and The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger (The last book Jason read – all the way through. It’d be kind of nice to have him nearby).

Maya: Relativity: The Special and General Theory by Albert Einstein and The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen J Gould. (I live with the mismeasure of man every single day. Humans have to be the big experiment gone wrong.)

Jake: I can’t stand to read because I get stuck on the prime pages … it’s too hard to turn the page and leave the prime behind. Are there any books with only prime page numbers? Those books. Shit. Audio books. Any audio book.

Heidi: Anything Shel Silverstein on one side for smiles and philosophy and Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott

What form would your Patronus have?

Kyle: Dog

Maya: Wolf

Jake: Armadillo

Heidi: Dog (Repeat, I know, but I feel like Kyle and I probably are both dogs … in the loyal sense of the word.)

Who is most likely to annoy you enough to want to turn them into a pocket watch?

Kyle: I’ve already turned someone to dust. Literally. I think I’d better not think about this kind of stuff. Bad things can happen.

Maya: The mere idea that I could turn someone into a pocket watch is too absurd to answer. I went along with the bookshelf thing and Patronus. Sure. But a pocket watch. Really? Do you have no idea about physics?

Jake: Me. I can imagine how perfect it would be to become time – the numbers – control the way my hands move around the face of a clock. Precision. Always right.

Heidi: Well. It depends. Would I have to carry said pocket watch around or could I pawn it?

Boxers or briefs?

Kyle: My mom still buys my underwear. Um. What do most chicks like?

Maya: Never thought about it.

Jake:

Heidi: Boxers

What kind of toiletry would you describe yourself as?

[Heidi's note: Honestly, this question threw me, so admittedly it’s all a bit random here!]

Kyle: A liquid bandage

Maya: Hand sanitizer.

Jake: Ziploc baggies

Heidi: Travel-sized toothpaste & Ciproflaxin (must-haves)

What is the most private thing you're willing to share here?

Kyle: Part of me will always wonder if maybe I wanted what happened way deep inside.

Maya: I’m scared.

Jake: Sometimes I don’t know how I’ll make it through the day.

Heidi: I haven’t read any of my books after they’ve hit the shelves. I’m afraid of what I’ll think about them.

Thank you, Heidi, Kyle, Maya and Jake, for answering my questions! I have to say, this is the first time I've been reprimanded by a character and I do apologize, Maya, for driving your science brain crazy. And Jake, sorry for making you uncomfortable with that boxers question. For the record, I peg you as a boxer man.

Now make sure you guys check out Compulsion, out now, along with Heidi's previous titles. I have to say, she is easily one of my favorite authors and her books are amazing and come very highly Kari recommended.

But if you want your chance to win all three- YES, all 3 of Heidi's books- plus a surprise from Colombia, where Heidi lives, just fill out THIS form!

Contest is US/Canada only and ends May 20.

  1. This was so awesome. I loved the questions, too, they were fantastic. I read a Twitter conversation Heidi wrote on a different blog, with three of her characters, and it was hysterical.
I must say, most of Jake's answers to these questions kind of freaked me out, with the whole prime number thing.

    Thanks!
