#BIR2011: A Need so Beautiful by Suzanne Young

Welcome to another day of Best I've Read 2011! My favorites pick today is one that I've read a few times, one that I couldn't talk about enough, and one that has a sequel coming out in 2012 that is just as amazing (if not even more so?) than this one. The book?

A Need so Beautiful by Suzanne Young.

Aside from the fact that Suzanne is a seriously talented writer, so full of voice and tone and emotion, but the story of this one is completely unique, and it will make you think. It's heartbreaking and hopeful and endearing and engaging. Plus, there's a seriously hot boy. Like, one of all my all time fave YA boys hot boy.

To celebrate my love of this book, instead of doing an author interview, Suzanne has been kind enough to share a deleted scene from the book! Don't worry, if you haven't read the book, this won't give you any spoilers. And if you have read the book, well, you know exactly what's really going on here:

Sara continues to gag, her body convulsing. I know I have to get her out of here, and yet the Need is tugging at my guts—ripping at my insides as it pulls me back toward the building.

“I wish I could help you, love,” Onika says, leaning against the stone façade of the museum.

I jump, startled, and turn to her. “What are you doing here?”

“Observing.” She picks at the fingers of her black gloves, a small smirk on her red lips. “Your friend looks awfully sick,” she says. “Too bad you can’t help her.”

“Can you help?”

Still from the trailer!
“No. But I’ll bet money that if you leave her now and she dies, you’ll never forgive yourself.” When she lifts her blue eyes to meet mine, they’re filled with determination. “Go with her, Charlotte,” she whispers. “The Need will wait for you, right?”

“I can’t,” I say, clutching my stomach. “It’s too painful if I resist.”

“Don’t you think you’re strong enough?”

And it’s then that I wonder if I am.

Now that just makes me want to reread the book, even if that scene isn't in it...

Ahem. So for those of you who haven't yet read this one, you're in luck. I've got one copy of the book up for grabs!
