Stopping by today, just a week before the release of her debut Personal
Demons, is Lisa Desrochers. Personal Demons is a great tale of good vs evil, a battle for one girl's soul, and some hot boys to boot. Stick around after the interview for your chance to win a copy of this book or some great swag!
If you had Luc's role in Acquisitions, how do you think you would handle it- and would you enjoy it?
I would be terrible. They’d dismember me and throw me in the Fiery Pit on the first day. You have to have some fortitude to damn souls to Hell for a living. I can’t say no to anybody, so all they’d have to do is say, “Please don’t tag my soul,” and I’d be like, “Okay. No problem. Have a nice day.”
The Amazon description starts with: "If you had to choose between Heaven and Hell, which would it be? -- Are you sure about that...?" Which would you choose, particularly in light of the book you've written?
That’s tough because, as we seen in Personal Demons, it really depends on the circumstances. Both Luc and Gabe can be very persuasive, so the choice isn’t as clear as you might think. In the end, I’d probably choose Heaven because they’d be more tolerant of all my screw-ups. (see first question)
If you could pair Luc and Frannie with any character from any book, what would be your pick for them?
For Frannie, I’d pick Fred or George Weasley (whichever one doesn’t die in Deathly Hollows). She takes herself a little too seriously. Fred and George definitely know how to have fun and would help her lighten up.
For Luc, it’d have to be someone who could stand up to him. I’d have to pick Katniss Everdeen. She’s tough and Luc would respect her.
What was the hardest part in creating your own version of Heaven/Hell, angels, etc?
I wanted to avoid cliché visuals of Heaven and Hell, and I don’t know how successful I was. I have a very vivid picture of Hell in my head. I’m still afraid that the words I put on the page don’t truly convey my image. I worked hard to capture the essence of the characters there and their motivations.
You're stranded on a deserted island. What piece of sports equipment would you want for company?
A beach ball. It’s an island. I’m assuming there’s a beach? And maybe a cabana boy?
What is the most private thing you're willing to share here?
I really want that cabana boy. O_O
What kind of cookie would you describe yourself as?
Oatmeal raisin. I’m not too complicated. What you see is what you get.
Thanks so much, Lisa. I wouldn't mind having that cabana boy either. Or, you know, Luc.
